You’re part of history. Help tell it.

Gellung Warl is the new First Peoples’ representative body established through Treaty in 2026 and is made up of democratically elected Traditional Owners from across Victoria.

Right now, we’re looking for a Digital Communications Advisor who can bring that story to life across social media, video, audio and digital platforms – with the creativity, cultural grounding and strategic nous to reach Community and broader audiences alike.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll sit within the Campaigns & Communications Team and take real ownership of our digital presence. That means:

  • Developing and delivering digital content that connects with Community and the wider public, translating complex Treaty concepts into accessible, engaging news updates, socials and campaign materials
  • Maintaining and publishing to our website and digital channels, keeping information timely and accurate
  • Contributing to internal publications for Assembly Members and external publications for the broader Aboriginal Community
  • Providing practical communications advice to the team and internal stakeholders
  • Working across the organisation to align digital outputs with our communications priorities and Treaty objectives

This is hands-on work in a fast-moving environment. You’ll be across multiple workstreams, working to real deadlines, and contributing to something that genuinely matters.

What you bring

  • Demonstrated experience delivering social media programs in complex community, public sector, or representative environments
  • Strong content creation skills across digital and multi-media formats (political campaign experience a real plus)
  • Solid experience maintaining websites via CMS platforms
  • The ability to take complex, contested information and make it clear, accessible and powerful
  • Established relationships with, and deep respect for, Aboriginal communities and the Aboriginal Community Controlled sector
  • A collaborative approach and the resilience to thrive in a politically nuanced environment
  • Knowledge of Victorian Aboriginal communities.

A relevant qualification in communications, media, digital or marketing is desirable – but the right combination of skills and lived experience matters just as much.

You’ll also need: a valid Working with Children Check

Why this role

Gellung Warl was created to promote collective self-government and self-determination for Traditional Owners and Aboriginal Victorians. This isn’t a comms role in the traditional sense – it’s a platform to shape how one of the most significant developments in Victoria’s history is understood, engaged with, and felt by Community.

We offer hybrid working from our Collingwood office, a genuine commitment to cultural safety, and a team that is deeply invested in what it’s building.

Gellung Warl is committed to advancing First Peoples’ employment and fostering a culturally safe workplace.
