What is the Interim Standing Group?
The Interim Youth Voice Standing Group’s role is to co-develop the Youth Voice Fellowship within Gellung Warl, through holding and centring their lived experience and connection to Community.
By harnessing their collective knowledge, the group will co-develop Gellung Warl’s Youth Voice Fellowship. This Fellowship may include:
- an internal Gellung Warl decision-making mechanism
- an education and leadership module framework
- connection to the Elders Council
About the group
The Interim Youth Voice Standing Group was developed by the Assembly Youth Representatives as a mechanism to bring young First Peoples into Gellung Warl to develop a Youth Voice Fellowship.
The interim standing group will begin in January 2027 and run until December 2027. Over the course of the year:
- participants will attend up to 12 meetings (generally one per month)
- meetings may run for between 2 and 8 hours
- a minimum of 3 meetings each year will be held in person in Naarm (Melbourne)
The Interim Youth Voice Standing Group is expected to exist for at least a 12-month period at which point the group is expected to conclude.
Who we’re looking for
The Interim Youth Voice Standing Group is open to young First Peoples who are passionate about self-determination, cultural governance and nation building. We are looking for young people who are interested in empowering themselves and young people in their community.
We are interested in your fresh ideas and perspectives and the impact your voice will make in this space. You will also build connections with our Gellung Warl Members and interim standing group peers in a culturally safe environment.
We hope the interim standing group will reflect young people at different stages in their life with different skills, knowledge and experiences. If you are someone with less experience, this is an opportunity for you to develop your cultural leadership and decision-making skills, we do not expect you to know everything coming into the space.
