On 22 June 2026, our Members came together at the Victorian Parliament, Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Country, to give their first speeches in their roles at Gellung Warl.
Members spoke to their aspirations for Treaty, their connections and responsibilities to community, to Country and to culture.
Thane Garvey welcomed us to beautiful Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Country before we entered Parliament to begin the proceedings. We heard from former Co-chairs Marcus Stewart and Ngarra Murray, grounding us in the history of this work and encouraging us to continue to walk together towards a better future for all.
Both general elected Members and Reserved Seat holders addressed the Assembly, with Members speaking in language, sharing personal anecdotes and reflections on their journeys to Treaty.
Two cloaks were presented to the Co-chairs, in line with our protocols of men and women’s business.
This ceremony also represents the strength of the Assembly Members, and the responsibility the Co-Chairs have accepted to Members and community.
